The US Department of Energy estimates that wind in the Dakotas alone could meet two-thirds of America's electricity needs; Texas could meet the other third.
how to help

How can you promote green renewable energy at UNC?

  1. First and foremost, make sure that you, your friends, your friends’ friends and random students vote YES on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, for the renewable energy referendum during the Student Election. One can vote by logging in to Student Central and then click on the button to vote in the general student elections.

  2. Buy a Green Energy t-shirt and wear it proudly! It is all organic, it's made using environmentally friendly printing technologies and, most of all, it helps spread the word on green energy. (T-shirts will be available shortly).

  3. Add this message or a similar one to your AOL Instant Messenger profile or away message:

      “On Tuesday, February 8, 2005, vote YES for renewable energy at UNC. Visit http://green.unc.edu/ for more info!”

    You can also add this message as signature to the bottom of your emails.

  4. Print one of these posters out and put it on your door or around campus or make it your desktop background.

  5. Join the green energy mailing list to learn more about upcoming events and ways to help. Send a message to listserv@unc.edu with the line "Subscribe powercarolina" in the message body.

  6. A week before the election, send out this message to listservs that might have people that would like to support renewable energy at UNC.

      Dear <insert listserv name> Members,

      I am writing to ask for your support for the green energy referendum in the upcoming student elections (Tuesday, February 8th).

      This referendum aims to raise about $200,000 annually through student fees to help support green energy related project on the UNC campus. Not only will these projects will play a major role in ensuring that UNC receives energy from sustainable, environmentally friendly sources, but will also make an important statement about UNC’s commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship.

      The issues at hand in this referendum are important to all of us as members of the university community and the community at large – I encourage you to take time to learn more about the campaign and spread the word amongst your friends and collogues.

      Sincerely,
      <Your name here>
